I eat lunch at my desk more often that I really like to admit. It's easy, it's fast, I can browse the web, etc. But it can be a bit messy, depending on what's in my lunch.
Here's my solution:
Pattern: Picnic Placemat from Lotta Jansdotter's Simple Sewing
Fabric: Inside - green cotton leftover from other projects, Exterior - Sushi fabric (like on the pocket), not sure of designer
Time to make: Less than an hour
Will I make this again? Yes, but I might leave off the silverware pocket next time
This is a super simple project and a good way to use up small amounts of fabric. It's essentially a placemat that rolls up so you can tuck it into a picnic basket or a tote bag. I'm a bit divided on the silverware pocket. There are situations where it might come in handy, but I'm not sure how useful it is. Time will tell. Overall, this is definitely an improvement on my old strategy of grabbing a bunch of paper towels to sweep up crumbs.
ps The lunch containers are from my Mr Bento lunch jar, which I bought just for fun a while ago and finally started using more often.
