Well, my main ravelympics project has totally taken a nosedive. I thought I did everything right. I swatched. I confirmed gauge. And then I discovered that my gauge swatch is a complete and total liar. I'm making a Christmas gift for Tim (hey, Tim! Stop reading now!), but things just seemed a bit off with the sizing. I convinced him to try on the in-progress vest last night and determined it's actually about twice Tim's size. I mean, I could fit Tim PLUS a whole second Tim into this vest. I'm about 75% finished with it and I was so tempted to keep going with it so I could say I finished it for the ravelympics but seriously... this project needs to be ripped and restarted. No doubt on that. Boo! I could probably still manage to finish it in time but this is a crazy week, in knitting terms. We have our neighborhood book club on Tuesday, a work/school dinner on Thursday, and then on Friday we're headed up to Wisconsin to celebrate my Dad's 78th birthday. It all adds up to much less knitting time than usual, although a lot more social fun. I think my new plan is just to switch to Ravelympics project #2: WIP wrestling with my Gust scarf.
Let this be a lesson to you though: Just when you get comfy and decide you can believe in your gauge swatches, they will turn against you and cause you to waste all kinds of good knitting time.
Two posts in a row with new pictures would be irritating, so here's a cheerful photo of Necco enjoying the sunshine:

I'm with you. Gauge swatches are for the birds. I only check it when I'm like 3 inches into it, which is probably kind of stupid, but it usually works. In general, I have to go up a needle size, and that seems to work. You never know, though. Knitting is a crazy, crazy world filled with crazies.
And I'll shut up now.
Smiles,
Erin
